Jordan Levy

November 4, 1943 — October 5, 2023

WORCESTER - Jordan Levy, former Worcester Mayor and City Councilor, Massachusetts Governor’s Councilor, business executive, and radio personality, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 5th at Jewish Healthcare in Worcester after a brief illness.
Born in Worcester in 1943 to the late Rachel (Sher) and Benjamin Levy, he grew up on Vernon Hill and was proud of his blue-collar upbringing. He graduated from Worcester Junior College and pursued a successful business career, working for many years at Parker Affiliated Companies where he became President and CEO.
He was passionate about public service and always worked to make his community, state, and country better. He served as Worcester City Councilor for almost 20 years, as one of the most popularly elected officials of all-time, and served as Mayor for six years. He served two terms on the Massachusetts Governor’s Council and then was appointed to the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority for seven years. He was chair of the Worcester Licensing Commission for ten years and was chair of the Worcester State College (WSC) Board of Trustees, and also served as President of the WSC Foundation. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from WSC. He was also active in many other organizations, and was a 33d degree Mason, Past Chancellor Commander of the Knights of Pythias, Jewish National Fund Man of the Year, among many other awards and honors.
Jordan was never shy about expressing his opinion and never met an argument he couldn’t win. As host of The Jordan Levy Show on WTAG in Worcester, he exemplified the best in local talk radio. His guests included politicians, celebrities, and members of the Worcester community, who faithfully listened, called in, and supported Jordan and his show for 30 years.
His greatest joy came from being a proud, loving, and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 43 years Maxine Levy (Levine) and was the cherished father of Tammi Levy-Cantor and Dr. Mike Cantor of Newton, Sherri Beth Carpineto and her husband Joseph of Marblehead, and was a devoted grandfather to Samson and Lily Cantor, and Harrison and Will Carpineto. He was predeceased by his sister Frances Weiner, and his mother-in-law Lily Levine.
