HOLDEN – Jon W. Nickel, 53, of Jefferson, died unexpectedly after being rushed to Exeter Hospital in Exeter, NH on Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Jon was born in Worcester, the son of Wayne Nickel and Grace E. (Jacobson) Mott on August 4, 1961. He lived in Holden and Rutland before moving to Jefferson over 10 years ago.
Jon grew up in Holden and attended Wachusett Regional High School. He had a passion for carpentry and began his career as a roofer working for various local contractors. His ambition, hard work and amiable personality combined to drive Jon to start his own contracting company, Jon Nickel Services Co., out of Jefferson, which he operated for over 20 years. He loved all sports especially baseball and NASCAR. Jon was best known for his sense of humor and quick wit. He enjoyed being among his close friends and cherished his family.
He is survived by the love of his life, Wendy (Spakauskas) Nickel of Jefferson with whom he shared 8 years of marriage; his step-daughter, Kate Ober of Boston; his sister, Jayne Nickel Waldman and her husband, David Waldman and their son, Daniel of Bedford, NH; a brother, Christopher Mott of Rutland; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ronald and Barbara Spakauskas of Jefferson; as well as many life-long friends including Robert Picard and Robert Quist. Jon was predeceased by his grandparents, Grace and Pehr Jacobson as well as his loving uncle, Jon Jacobson.
Relatives and friends are invited to a gathering in celebration of Jon’s life from 5 - 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, at the Holden Hills Country Club Conference Center, 1800 Main St., Holden. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Jon's name may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
