ZEPHYRHILLS, FL/STERLING – John J. Valentino, 79, of Brookfield, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital in Ware after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 24 years, Marilyn A. (Gendron) Valentino; a son, Paul “Rudy” J. Valentino; four step-children, William R. Keough, Deborah A. King, Brenda L. Keough, all of Worcester and Kelli S. Doucette of Canaan, ME; two sisters, Anita M. Whitney of Leominster and Rosanna Iacovelli of Hinsdale; seven step-grandchildren; seven step- great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
John was born in Sterling, the son of John and Santina M. (Negro) Valentino and had lived his whole life in Sterling before moving to Zephyrhills, FL in 2001. He served his country in the U.S. Army for two years and worked for the Mass State Highway Department before retiring in 1999. Previously, he worked for Harr Ford in Worcester and was a manger at Richards Bus Company in Sterling. He was a part-time Sterling Police Officer for twelve years and was a member of St. Richard’s Church of Chichester Church in Sterling. He enjoyed working on small engines and was an avid New England sports fan. John and Marilyn enjoyed spending their summers in Brookfield and winters in Florida.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, in Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Funeral services for John will be held on Monday, June 17, from the funeral home with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Richard’s of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. A private committal service will be held at a later date at St. John’s Cemetery in Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sterling Police Assoc., 135 Leominster Road, Sterling, MA 01564.
