John Andrew Mathews

November 28, 1967 — September 17, 2013

HOLDEN -- John Andrew Mathews, 45, of Holden died on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 in Providence. Born in Worcester and raised in Holden, John was the son of James S. and Clare (Connor) Mathews and lived many years in the Boston and North Shore area.



He is survived by his brothers Kevin Mathews of Holden and Joseph Mathews and his wife, Susan of Worcester; his two sisters, Mary Sue Kirby and husband, Robert and Maura O’Brien and husband, Kenneth of Holden; along with three nieces and three nephews. A brother, Brian Mathews, predeceased him.



John graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1985 and Johnson State College, Vermont in 1987. He later attended the University of Colorado and the University of Massachusetts. John worked in sales in the telecommunications industry in Boston.



He was proud of his Irish heritage and had the "gift of gab". John made friends where ever he sojourned and will be remembered for his welcoming smile and sense of humor. He loved cooking, spending time outdoors, and was a voracious reader. John was an avid music fan, especially of the Grateful Dead.



Relatives and friends are invited to visit with John's family from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be private at St. Mary's Cemetery in Holden.
