Sterling – John M. Maki, 88, passed away on April 25, 2025 at UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Hospital, Leominster Campus. John was born in Norwich, CT, grew up in Worcester and has resided in Sterling, MA for the last twenty years. He leaves his wife, Susan Maki; his son, Jon Maki; a daughter, Deborah Dymek; a sister, Bev Cronin; step-children, Stacey Holmes and her husband, Ethan, Mickey Brown and his wife, Robyn; and four step-grandchildren, Sofia, Emily, Amelia and Henry. He was predeceased by his mother, Margaret (McKinnon); his father, John Maki; his former wife, Rita (Gosselin); and his brother, Bobby.
John served four years in the Air Force. He worked at Norton Co. for thirty years. His “retirement” jobs included Kangaroo Crossing, as well as twenty six years working at the Central Mass Safety Council as a driving instructor. John was a marathon runner who ran six Boston marathons, and an avid hiker who hiked sixty five 4,000 ft. mountains in New England.
A memorial service honoring and celebrating John’s life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Rd. (Rte. 62), Sterling. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Stroke Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
