STERLING - John A. MacLennan, 68, beloved husband of Debra (Hoch) MacLennan, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Born in Lynn and raised in Central Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Wallace and Elizabeth (Hosley) MacLennan.
John graduated from Wachusett Regional High School where he played hockey and baseball. He went on to further his education by attending Mount Wachusett Community College where he earned an associate degree. John enjoyed a long career with Norton Company, retiring after 42 years of dedicated service. He was an avid Boston sports fan, religiously watching the Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots season over season. When he wasn’t watching his favorite teams win he could be found on the golf course or softball field with his closest friends and family.
He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 46 years, Debra; his son, Jonathan MacLennan of Leominster; a brother, James MacLennan and his wife, Judy of Shrewsbury; three sisters, Leslie Tommasi and her husband, John of No. Hampton, Susan Wade of Greene, ME and Joanie Basta and her husband, Eric of Nashua, NH; and many nieces and nephews. Last but not least, he will be missed greatly by his companion dog Mac.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family on Saturday, July 23rd from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Hope Chapel, 35 Chocksett Road, Sterling. A funeral service honoring his life will follow at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sterling Senior Center and Sterling Police Department (specifically, the Take Me Home Program). Arrangements are under the care of Miles-Sterling Funeral Home & Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling.
