STERLING – John A. MacAdams II, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 3, 2017 with his loving family by his side at his son’s home in West Boylston after a lengthy illness. He was 77. Born and raised in Worcester, John was the son of John A. and Gladys I. (Rich) MacAdams and lived resided in West Boylston and Lancaster before moving to Sterling in 1977. John graduated from Worcester Boy’s Trade High School with a concentration in printing and graphics. He worked for over 20 years in the printing businesses locally including; Woodbury and Co. in Worcester, Charlescraft in Milford and Colonial Press in Clinton. In 1978, John bought Neverfail Sporting Goods in West Boylston which he renamed The Outdoorsman. He sold the store in 1988 and went to work as a firearms appraiser at Interstate Arms Corp, in Billerica, Joe Devine Auctioneers in Milford, NH and most recently, Down East Antiques in Amherst, NH retiring in 2012. His passion in life was collecting, selling, and appraising firearms. He enjoyed skeet and trap shooting and was a member of numerous sportsmen clubs including the Boylston Sportsmen’s Club, Nimrod League of Holden, Eight Point Sportsmen’s Club in Sterling, Leominster Sportsmen’s Club, Harvard Sportsmen’s Club, and a past president of the Worcester Pistol and Rifle Club. John also enjoyed pheasant hunting with his friends over his Elhew Pointers at Upland Game in Millis and Addieville East Farm in RI. Other interests included collecting coins and stamps, woodworking and general carpentry. He was a past president of the Worcester County Numismatic Society. First and foremost, John was a man of strong faith and centered his life on his family. He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and was a member of the Wachusett Christadelphian Ecclesia in West Boylston. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and looked forward to spending time at the log cabin he built on Toothaker Island on Lake Mooselookmeguntic in Rangeley Plantation, Maine that is enjoyed by his family to this day. John now sleeps awaiting the return of the Lord, Jesus Christ. He will be affectionately remembered and missed by his beloved wife of 55 years, Priscilla A. (Strolis) MacAdams; three sons, James A. MacAdams and his wife, Kimberly of North Grosvenordale, CT John A. MacAdams III of Templeton, and Matthew F. MacAdams and his wife, Laura of West Boylston; two sisters, Esther Trow and Susan Dougal and her husband, Brian all of Princeton; 7 grandchildren, Kayleigh Nevers and her husband, Morgan, Meghan, Tyler, MacKenzie, Madison, David and Sarah MacAdams; and a great grandson, Harry Nevers. He is predeceased by a brother, Stuart C. MacAdams. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with John’s family from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, August 9, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A memorial service honoring his life will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 10, at the funeral home.
