John J. Hemenway

January 24, 1951 — March 20, 2010

HOLDEN – John J. Hemenway, 59, of Princeton Street, Jefferson, died at home on Saturday, March 20, 2010 after an illness.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth L. (Dickman) Hemenway, a son, James Petrone and a daughter, Christine Petrone, all of Jefferson; a brother, Stephen Hemenway of Holland, MI; three sisters, St. Mary Anne Hemenway SSJ of Shrewsbury, Jane Hall and her husband Stetson of Osterville and Clare Hemenway of Wausau, WI; a nephew, Gregory Hall of Osterville and a Godson, Antonio Savino. He was born in Worcester, the son of Russell and Ann (Gagan) Hemenway and lived in Worcester for many years before moving to Jefferson in 1995.

Mr. Hemenway graduated from St. Peter’s High School in Worcester, class of 1969. After graduating high school he worked as a professional musician and was a talented percussionist and guitar player. He later worked as a Library Assistant for the UMASS Medical School Library until his retirement in 2006. Mr. Hemenway was also an avid reader and history buff. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Please omit flowers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Commonwealth Hematology-Oncology, P.C., 299 Lincoln Street, Suite 100, Worcester, MA 01605. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
