Worcester – John (Jack) Fraser, Jr., 93, died on Friday, April 14, 2023. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Hempstead, NY, the son of John and Johanna (Von Drathen) Fraser.
Jack graduated from Hempstead High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colgate University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean era and married his high school sweetheart, Doris before starting his career in retail at Abraham and Straus in New York. Jack would go on to be Vice President at Jordan Marsh and hold other senior executive positions at Allied Stores and The National Retail Merchants Association, retiring in 1995. During his career, Jack worked and lived in several communities including Massapequa, NY, Framingham, MA, Dix Hills, NY, and Washington D.C. After retiring, Jack and Doris enjoyed living on Pawleys Island, SC for over 20 years before moving to the Willows Retirement Community of Worcester six years ago, where he leaves many dear friends.
In his leisure time, Jack loved to garden. He had a green thumb and had magnificent flower gardens. He and Doris also loved the beach, and you would frequently see him there with his family and friends. He was a member of several churches over the years; including St. Luke Lutheran Church in Dix Hills, NY (where he held many leadership positions) and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pawleys Island. Above all he cherished his family.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Doris E. (Johnson) Fraser; his sons, Dr. Robert Fraser and his wife, Beth of Sterling, Gary Fraser and his wife, Janet of New Canaan, CT, David Fraser and his wife, Janis of Ellenboro, NC; his daughter, Susan Thomas and her husband, Michael of Shohola, PA; his grandchildren, Robert Jr, Shannon, Kelly, Eric, Kristin, Danielle, Lauren, Ryan, Megan, Emily and Stephen; 12 great grandchildren; and loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his brother, William “Bill” Fraser.
A private celebration of life service will be held in the future for relatives and Willows residents at The Willows Retirement Community, 101 Barry Rd., Worcester. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lutheran World Relief at
