John R. Hazelwood, 77, passed away in his home on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Born and raised in Worcester, he was the son of the late Bernard R. and Anne (Reardon) Hazelwood.
He lived most of his early life in the Main South area before moving to Holden. He attended Downing Street Grammar School and graduated from South High School, Class of 1963. John went on to attend Salter Secretarial School and began working at The College of the Holy Cross in the chemistry department, where he stayed until his retirement, 37 years later.
John was an avid walker around the streets of Holden and was nicknamed “Johnny Walker”. He was also an ardent Holy Cross and Patriots sports fan. He loved to travel by car and cruise ship. He also enjoyed his summer vacations on Lake Winnipesaukee.
John leaves behind a sister, Judyth Barrett of Holden; his brother, Ronald Hazelwood and his wife, Judy of Shrewsbury; his sister-in-law, Venetia Hazelwood and several nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Jeffrey Hazelwood and his niece, Karen Hazelwood.
John’s family would like to thank the nurses at St. Vincent Oncology Department for the care they gave to their brother. A very special thanks to Amy, Nancy, and Brenda who were with him from the very beginning, to the end.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26 at St. George Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
