John C. Grinkis

STERLING – John C. Grinkis, Jr., 72, of Meeting House Hill Road, a life-long resident of Sterling, died on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at UMass Memorial Healthcare-University Campus, Worcester surrounded by his family.
Born in Holden on August 26, 1941, he was the only child of John C. and Rena Mae (Hitchcock) Grinkis, Sr. John graduated from Wachusett Regional High School and Lowell Technological Institute. He was an independent, self-employed, insurance agent since 1969. He was the owner of Grinkis Insurance Agency in West Boylston and achieved recognition as a member of the million dollar round table.
John loved to play golf and was one of the founding members of Sterling Country Club. He was also active with the Jaycee’s of Worcester and the United States Junior Chamber. When his children were young, he coached little league in Sterling and sponsored the first season of Sterling’s Lassie League.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Madeleine J. (Murningham) Grinkis; two sons, Mark B. and Matt W. Grinkis, both of Sterling; a daughter, Carmen M. Grinkis and her wife, Kathrine Lovell of Tiverton, RI. He is also survived by his step-mother, Lorraine Grinkis and her daughter, Lisa Grinkis of Wareham and Jeffrey Grinkis (deceased); a granddaughter, Ania Grinkis, her brother, Adam Meunier and their mother, Deborah Meunier.
Friends and family are invited to visit with John’s family on Monday, April 21, from 4-7 PM and again on Tuesday, April 22, from 9-9:30 AM in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling, before leaving in procession for a 10 AM graveside service at Hillside Cemetery, Sterling. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to an organization near and dear to John’s heart, the George P. Gibbs Little League, (for the Rick Maypother Field Fund), P.O. Box 1357, Sterling MA 01564.
