WORCESTER/RUTLAND - John Joseph “Jay” Flynn, 55, of Rutland passed away at home on Friday, October 14, 2011 after an illness. Born in Worcester, he was a lifelong resident of the city before moving to Rutland in 2010.
He is survived by his sister, Anne Marie Flynn and her husband John R. Fierke of Hopkinton; and many cousins. He is predeceased by his sister, Patricia Anne Flynn, his mother, Anne Griffin Flynn, and his father, John Francis Flynn.
A 1975 graduate of Saint John’s High School, Shrewsbury, he worked in sales all his life, most notably at WaterRest, Lechmere, Highland Superstore and Combined Insurance Co. He was an avid fisherman who loved movies, music, reading, photography, and his beloved dog, Hootie.
The family extends its gratitude to Mike Ferguson, Jay’s lifelong friend, and close friends Steve Moore, Bill Armstrong, Mike Barrett and Tim Brosnihan for their kindnesses towards and support of him for so many years.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
