WEST BOYLSTON/CAPE ELIZABETH, ME – John Carey Dwyer, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Knollwood Nursing Center. Born and raised in Worcester, he was a son of John and Marie (Carey) Dwyer. His beloved wife, Barbara A. (Shea) Dwyer passed away in 1991 after 28 years of marriage.
After graduating from North High School in 1956, John attended the Massachusetts Maritime Academy while serving in the United States Coast Guard Reserves. In 1963 he married the love of his life Barbara and together they raised their family in West Boylston for over twenty years. After Barbara’s passing, he then moved to Maine. John enjoyed a long career selling industrial equipment for companies including, Coppus Engineering, Brierly Lombard and FW Webb, where he retired from in 2013.
He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his daughter, Jennifer O’Malley and her husband, Kevin of West Boylston; his granddaughter, Emma of West Boylston; his grandson, Shea of Worcester; a brother, David Dwyer of South Carolina; and a sister, Deborah McGuinness and her husband, Robert of So. Yarmouth. Uncle Carey also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, who he loved spending time with.
John’s true passion in life was his family. Apart from his daughter, the lights of his life were his grandchildren, nothing made him happier than being with Shea and Emma; he was there to support them in anything they did. John loved the ocean and in his spare time, he could often be found boating on the waters of Maine. He loved Cape Cod, spending time there with his family was one of his favorite things.
We would like to express our gratitude to Briarwood and Knollwood Nursing Center. The nurses, CNAs and staff are some of the most kind and compassionate people we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Thank you for taking such good care of our Papa.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with John’s family from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, December 9 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. John’s funeral will be celebrated at 11am on Tuesday, December 10 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt.
