John Devincentis

July 11, 1954 — November 1, 2012

STERLING – John DeVincentis, Jr., 58, of Belmont Drive, died peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Thursday, November 1, 2012 in Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, as a result of complications from cancer surgery. John was born in Quincy, son of John and Muriel (Norris) DeVincentis, Sr., and lived in South Weymouth before moving to Sterling.



John graduated from South Weymouth High School and attended Bentley College in Waltham. He then enlisted into the United States Air Force where he served from 1973 to 1978. After returning from overseas, John continued his education matriculating in the Electrical Engineering program at University of Massachusetts in Amherst where he met his future wife Robbin A. Ryznic. They married in 1983 and moved to Sterling where they raised their four children.



He was a Senior Design Engineer at Mitre Corporation in Bedford where he worked for 26 years. He was a member of the First Church in Sterling and the Hiram O. Taylor American Legion Post 189 in Sterling. John coached Sterling Youth Soccer and Sterling Youth Baseball. He enjoyed playing sports and participated in adult volleyball and soccer in Sterling which was coined, “the old man’s league.” John enjoyed any activity that would take him outdoors including, bicycling, bird watching, gardening, fishing, playing tennis and vacationing with his family.



John leaves his wife of 29 years, Robbin A. (Ryznic) DeVincentis; four children, Erica Leger and her husband Joseph of Clinton, Nathan I. Rice and his wife Stephanie of Arizona, Nicholas “Nick” J. DeVincentis and John DeVincentis III, both of Sterling; four brothers, Joe DeVincentis and his wife Elda of Shrewsbury, Jim DeVincentis and Tiea Zehnbauer of Vernon, VT, Jeff DeVincentis and his wife Kelley of Hilton Head, SC and Jay DeVincentis of Franklin; a sister, Julie Doyle and her husband Aubrey of Hopkinton; beloved aunts, Mary Tollo and Barbara Norris, both of Weymouth, and Edna Norris of Duxbury; 5 grandchildren, Tatiana and Alysia Campo, Grace DeVincentis, Grady and Parker Rice; and many nieces and nephews.



Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. A funeral service celebrating John’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 5, at First Church in Sterling, 6 Meetinghouse Hill Road, Sterling. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Sterling.
