HOLDEN – John “Jack” C. Oliver, 86, of Holden, died peacefully under the loving care of his family on Friday, December 30, 2011, at his daughter’s home in Brookfield. He was born in Holden, the son of Elmer and B. Irene (Savage) Oliver and lived here all of his life. His beloved wife of 42 years, Nancy L. (Nicholson) Oliver died in 1988.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his two daughters. Lois A. O’Leary and her husband John of Brookfield, and Nancy L. Sullivan and her husband Norm of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; a brother, William V. Oliver of Holden; a sister, Ann J. Harrington of Holden; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Allen Allard of Uxbridge; many nephews and nieces. His daughter, Linda J. Allard of Uxbridge died in 2005. He is also predeceased by a brother and former Holden Police Chief, James Oliver.
Jack enlisted in the United States Navy in his senior year at Holden High School and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Antietan as a torpedoman’s mate. After returning home, he worked at Sunnyside Motors in Holden and later 25 years at Holden Heating Co., retiring in 1990. He was also a part-time police officer for the Town of Holden.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Jefferson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
