HOLDEN – John "Johnny" Christo passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021 at home surrounded by family at the age of 85. He was born in Southbridge, son of the late Andrew and Angelia Christo who moved to America from Albania.
He leaves his beloved wife of 62 years, Blanche R. Christo; his daughter, Cheryl; his son, Andrew; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters, Elvira “Vera” and Margaret and his brother, Kristie.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a butcher by trade, making friends out of customers by working in his family business Christos’ Market and later Leroux Meats and Central Street Market. He also was an emergency medical technician for Himmer Ambulance. He enjoyed being outdoors by his sparkling pool, growing hot peppers in his vegetable garden, a good cup of coffee, and classic cars like his prized 1930 Model A Ford. John was a "hot ticket" with an infectious chuckle, persistently trying his luck at the casino and in playing his lottery "numbers". He was devoted and selfless: both a pillar of strength and source of comedic escape. The most cherished moments were spent over the barbecue with family and friends.
John and family give thanks to members of Veteran's Affairs and Brookhaven Hospice teams.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with John’s family on Friday, July 23rd from 11a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a celebration of life service at 12 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605. To share a memory or offer an online condolence, please visit our "Tribute Wall"
