Biography
WORCESTER/WAYNE, NJ – John Calvin Bowater, formerly of Wayne, NJ, died on the evening of Friday, September 21, 2012 after a short illness. Born in 1925 to John and Elsie Bowater in Kearny, NJ, he graduated from Nutley High School and joined the Army Air Corps at the age of 17, where he became a pilot and flight instructor. After the war Cal attended Xavier University on the GI Bill, flew for Trans Caribbean Airways for a time, then returned to Nutley where he met and married the love of his life, Nancy Lindsay Fenwick. For the next 40 years Cal pursued a career in aviation insurance with Royal Liverpool Insurance in New York, and Atlantic Aviation in Teterboro, NJ, and together Nan and Cal raised two boys. In retirement they were able to enjoy their shared passion for golf, the symphony, dinners with good friends, and frequent visits with family. Cal is survived by his son James and his wife Laurie, a granddaughter, Susan Gauthier and her husband Ray and a great-grand daughter, Lindsay. He was predeceased by his wife Nancy, and son Clay. In all things, Cal lived his life with integrity and leaves his family a legacy of love and devotion.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
