RUTLAND – John “Bucky” Michael Butkiewicz, 50, a former long time resident of Rutland, died Saturday, June 25, 2005 in his Leicester apartment.
He leaves his mother, E. Mary (O’Shea) Butkiewicz of Rutland; two brothers, Edmund J. Butkiewicz, Jr. and his wife Anne S. of Rutland and Paul W. Butkiewicz and his wife Kathy J. of Rutland; four nephews, Johnathan, Justin, Marc and Jamie all of Rutland; several aunts and uncles including, Nora T. O’Shea of Rutland; his dearest and beloved friend, former Rutland Police Chief, Ralph Anderson of Rutland; and numerous cousins. He was born in Worcester the son of the late Edmund J. Butkiewicz, Sr., and lived most of his life in Rutland. Besides his father, he is predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Ellen M. (Falt) O’Shea and an uncle, Victor “Dickie” Racine.
John graduated from Wachusett Regional High School, Holden in 1972 with honors. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard and later worked for and was a member of Local Teamsters Union # 170 in Worcester. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and the Rutland Fife and Drum Corps. both in Rutland. He was known locally for his candor and political views.
He was a lover of all animals and leaves his dog, Nellie and two cats, Penney and Cowboy. He was also both a Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots’ fan.
The funeral for John will be held on Thursday, June 30, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery, 142 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, in the funeral home.
