Joanne C. (Friberg) Westlund
January 12, 1938 — August 19, 2021
HUBBARDSTON – Joanne C. (Friberg) Westlund, age 83 of Hubbardston, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at home in the loving care of her family.
Joanne was born in Worcester, the daughter of Wallace H. and Ethel I. (Johnson) Friberg, and was raised in Millbury. She graduated from Millbury Memorial High School. She then met the love of her life, Bruce Westlund. They married on October 26, 1957.
While raising three sons, Joanne returned to school and attained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Worcester State College. She was a first grade teacher at Hubbardston Center School for 21 years.
Family was always Joanne’s priority in life. She deeply loved her children and adored her grandchildren. Her young family spent many summers in East Sandwich on Cape Cod with a lifetime of memories.
Joanne was an avid reader and world traveler. She loved her daily “10,000 step” walks especially at her winter home in Bonita Springs, Florida. She and Bruce spent many years there enjoying many social activities together with friends. She loved life and almost any activity she could participate in. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester.
She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her husband of 63 years, Bruce M. Westlund, two sons, Mark B. Westlund and his wife, Darlene of Hubbardston, John W. Westlund and his wife, Robin of Centerville, her sister, Jane Ross and her husband, R. Thomas of MD, two grandchildren, John M. Westlund and Meghan C. Westlund and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her son, Andrew C. Westlund and her brother John “Jack” Friberg.
A memorial service followed by interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joanne’s name may be made to Cancer Free Kids, P.O. Box 575, Loveland, OH 45140 or online via:
