Worcester - Joanne (Culver) Alinovi passed peacefully at age 93 on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Dodge Park Rest Home in Worcester, MA. She resided at the Oasis and Dodge Park for the past 10 years where the staff members became her family treating her with respect, kindness, caring and love.
Joanne lived her entire life in Rutland, MA and spent her summers at her cottage in York Beach, ME where she took daily walks, painted, and took numerous photographs of the ocean. As an art lover, Joanne often spent time at the Worcester Art Museum and New York's many museums and galleries.
A woman "before her time", she attended Worcester State College while her children were in elementary school. She graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1964 and a Masters of Education in 1967. Her teaching career began in North Brookfield, MA and she eventually retired from the City of Worcester School System.
Her love of learning kept her a continual student whether taking classes or reading nonfiction. Daily, she read the New York Times and the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, which often prompted her to respond to what she read by sending a Letter to the Editor. She also made entries in her annual personal diaries for most of her life.
Joanne's curiosity and interest in other cultures took her to Japan, Cuba and Brazil. Upon her return, a Japanese garden became part of the landscape at her home.
Always outspoken, Joanne will be remembered for her view on politics, her red glasses, and her ability to champion causes she felt strongly about.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Ugo A Alinovi who died in 2004. She leaves daughter Jane L Alinovi of Springfield, MA her grandchildren Karisa Glantz of New Orleans, LA and Tanner Glantz of Old Lyme, CT, and great grandchildren, Jaxson, Brooklyn and Axel Glantz. She also leave a daughter, Diane G Alinovi and her husband Normand Bijeau of The Villages, FL.
As she wished, there are no services.
