WEST BOYLSTON—Joan Laura (Orciani) Naylor, 77, formally of 137 Hartwell Street and 11 Marsh Hawk Way, West Boylston, died Thursday, February 2, 2006, in the Coleman House Senior Care Residence, Northborough, after suffering another stroke on January 24th.
She was born in West Boylston, daughter of Adimero and Anna (Pompili) Orciani, and lived in West Boylston all her life until last June. She was the wife of Alexander M. Naylor Jr. who predeceased her in 1990. She leaves three daughters, Sandra L., wife of Michael J. McManus of Shrewsbury, Paula S., wife of Kevin C. Connor of West Boylston, Lisa M., wife of Russell E. Boulette of Shrewsbury; five grandsons, Joseph P. McManus of Bristol, CT, James R. McManus of Worcester, Michael A. McManus of Shrewsbury, Kyle M. and Kris M. Connor of West Boylston, a step-grandson, Wesley L. Nelson of Charlton and her beloved companion of fifteen years, Chester H. Brown of North Grafton. Joan was the youngest of six and is survived by one brother, Joseph “Pat” Orciani of West Boylston; sister-in-law, Helen Orciani; several nieces and nephews.
Joan graduated from West Boylston High School in 1946 and from Clinton Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She worked as a registered nurse mainly at Worcester Memorial Hospital and Hahnemann Hospital doing private duty for several years on the 11-7 night shift. She also worked at Worcester County Hospital from 1970-1990 as a head nurse and then as a Nursing Supervisor on the 3-11 evening shift.
Joan enjoyed her retirement by relaxing at her swimming pool and vacationing at the family summer home in Moultonborough, New Hampshire on Lake Winnipesaukee. She enjoyed boating, dancing, bowling and watching the Boston Red Sox games. Joan was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Worcester and enjoyed socializing with friends during the coffee hour preceding the Sunday morning worship service. Joan had a great sense of humor and shared many “jokes and laughs” with her patients and with her family. She cherished her time with her children and especially adored and enjoyed her grandsons and beloved dogs.
The funeral service for Joan will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 6, in Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster Street, Worcester. Calling hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden.
