Biography
WORCESTER – Joan A. (Harwood) Girard, 78, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016.
She leaves her four children, Deborah M. Caola and her husband, James of Shrewsbury, and their children, Andrew Caola and his wife, Nicole, Matthew Caola and Aaron Caola; Lisa A. Wiseman and her husband, Jamie of Holden, and their children, Ryan Wiseman, Jillian Bates and her husband, Keith and Tyler Wiseman; Mark R. Girard, Sr. of California; Michelle J. Reidy and her husband, Sean of Auburn, and their children, Meghan Reidy and Briana Reidy. She was predeceased by her devoted and loving husband, Richard W. Girard, Jr. in 2012 and her grandson, Mark R. Girard, Jr. in 2014.
Joan was born in Worcester, the daughter of Frank G. and Helen J. (Freeman) Harwood, Sr. She was a graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Worcester State University and was a registered nurse for many years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 4, in St. George’s Parish, 38 Brattle St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. Donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave. Boston, MA 02215.
