Kenneth J. Loftus

HOLDEN – Kenneth J. Loftus, 84, of Worcester and formerly of Holden, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007 in Knollwood Nursing Center, lovingly attended by his family.

He leaves his beloved wife of 57 years, Joanne (Murphy) Loftus; his brother, T. Murray Loftus of Cambridge; seven sons, Rev. Kenneth G., S.J., of Chestnut Hill, John F. and his wife Laura Lee of Salem, NH, Thomas J. and his wife Michele of Newton, Rev. Robert A. of Worcester, Michael J. and his wife Pamela of Clifton Park, NY, Timothy F. and his wife Karen of Scituate and Richard E. and his wife Mary of Holden; three daughters, Anne M. and her husband Paul Demerjian of Cary, NC, Kathryn M. and her husband Robert Slattery of Old Orchard Beach, ME and Joanna M. and her friend Joseph Griffin of Worcester; nineteen grandchildren, James Loftus and his wife Cassandra, Jennifer and her husband Andy LaBranche, Mark and Greg Demerjian, Katie, Kevin, LeighAnn and Bridget Loftus, Alex, Caroline and Louis Loftus, Joe, Anne, MaryKate, Colleen, Bobby and Norah Slattery, and Ryan and Ian Loftus; a great-granddaughter, Olivia LaBranche; and many nephews and nieces. A brother, James W. Loftus, predeceased him.

Mr. Loftus was born and raised in Cambridge, son of the late Anthony and Catherine (Long) Loftus. He graduated from St. John’s High School in North Cambridge and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Boston College in 1955. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War, retiring as a Captain in 1954. He worked 37 years for New England Tel. & Tel., retiring in 1981 as a District Manager in Worcester. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish and an avid fan of his children’s and grandchildren’s sports teams, along with the BC Eagles and the N.E. Patriots. He enjoyed his retirement years traveling and visiting his children.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 21st, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Mr. Loftus will be held on Friday, June 22nd, from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Covenant House, 346 West 17th Street, New York, NY 10011-5002.
