HOLDEN – Russell J. LaRoche, 92, of Holden Street, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, October 6, 2010.
His wife of 58 years, Mary D. (Orciuch) LaRoche, died in 2001. He leaves a daughter, Mary Capparelli – Silva and her husband Alan, of Sarasota, Florida; four sons, R. Philip LaRoche of Rutland, John J. LaRoche, James W. LaRoche and his wife Susan, all of Jefferson, and Paul J. LaRoche and his wife Kathleen of New Braintree; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
Russell was born and raised in Worcester, a son of Joseph and Emma (Giroux) LaRoche, and lived in Holden since 1936. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served as an M.P. in Okinawa, Japan. He was the founder of Bay State Spring Corporation in Jefferson and served as its president from 1962 to 1981. He later served as a consultant to the family business. Previously, he worked for Wickwire Spencer in Worcester and was a licensed realtor and stockbroker. He was a member of St. George's Church and the Holden Exchange Club for many years.
Russell took great pleasure in the small and simple things in life and treasured his family above all. He had a unique way of making every person feel special and was loved by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 11th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 12th, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. George's Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden.
