BARRE – John J. Keddy, 96, of Hubbardston Road, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2011, in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester. He was born in Framingham, son of Ernest C. and Elizabeth A. (Dorsey) Keddy, and has lived in Barre most of his life.
He leaves his wife of 75 years, Sylvia M. (Sibley) Keddy; his daughters, June A. Locke of Barre and Carole E. Dwelly of Oakham; a brother, Francis Keddy of Stark, NH; three sisters, Alma Splaine and Ruth Drolet, both of Barre and Myrtle Dwelly of Holden; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. Five siblings, Mildred Viitala, James Keddy, Mary Adomaitis Hopp, Clifford Keddy and Norman Keddy, and a grandson, Kenneth Locke, predeceased him.
Mr. Keddy worked as a coremaker for Charles G. Allen Co. in Barre for over 40 years. After his retirement, he worked at Pout and Trout Campground in Rutland where he was known as "Bub". He enjoyed square dancing, horses, gardening, smoking his pipe and spending time with the dog he loved, Polly.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 21st in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Sterling Animal Shelter, 17 Laurelwood Road, Sterling, MA 01564.
