HUBBARDSTON/HOLDEN, MA – James "Jim" W. Ramsey, Jr., 69, of Cross Road, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 5, 2010 in the Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster, after an illness.
He is survived by the love of his life, Ursula M. (Holzinger) Ramsey, who would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on December 20th; three children: his son, Christopher K. Ramsey and his wife Amy of Fitzwilliam, NH, his daughter, Leslie C. Caponigro and her husband Andrew of Barre and his son, Dennis P. Ramsey and his wife Kirsten of Hubbardston; 14 grandchildren which were his greatest pride and joy; a sister, Carolyn J. Young and her husband Jim of St. Albans, WV; two brothers-in-law, Peter Holzinger and his wife Inge of Germany and Ralph Holzinger and his wife Birgitt of Germany; his Chihuahua "Sherman", and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jim was born in Elkins, West Virginia, son of James W. and Marguerite (Wamsley) Ramsey, Sr., and lived 13 years in Germany and 18 years in Holden before moving to Hubbardston in 1996. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964 and met his wife while stationed in Germany. He received a BS in Management from the Univ. of Maryland in 1974 and an MBA and Executive MBA from Anna Maria College in 1993. He worked 20 years as a logistical management specialist for the U.S. Air Force Department of Defense. While in Holden, he was on the finance committee and later served as a Selectman for the Town of Hubbardston. He was a member and Past Master of the Boylston Lodge of Masons in West Boylston, an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed history. He also loved to travel around the world and experience the different cultures.
Jim's family would like to extend their sincerest of appreciation to the doctors and nurses who provided his care and a special thanks to the Hubbardston Council on Aging van drivers who drove him to dialysis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. during calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 9th, in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of New England, Gift of Life Memorial, 85 Aster Avenue, Suite 2, Norwood, MA 02062; or to the Hubbardston Historical Society, P.O. Box 119, Hubbardston, MA 01452.
