Richard J. Ferris

HOLDEN/KENNEBUNK, ME – Richard J. Ferris, 90, of 15 Bristol Court, formerly of Holden, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007 in the Southern Maine Medical Center, Biddeford, after a short illness.

He leaves his wife of 39 years, Shirley G. (Patch) Ferris; his son, Richard J. Ferris, Jr. and his wife Joan of Worcester; two daughters, Judith A. Bell and her husband Norman of Oxford and Sherlie I. LaPierre and her husband Robert of Harvard; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 step-children; 5 step-grandchildren; 5 nieces and a nephew. His first wife of 27 years, Phyllis A. (Trudell) Ferris, died in 1966, and his brother, Norman F. Ferris, predeceased him. He was born in Saugus, son of James and Irene E. (Richardson) Ferris, and lived in Holden for 32 years before moving to Kennebunk. He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade where he played football.

Mr. Ferris was owner and operator of a plumbing and heating company in Worcester. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Worcester, an associate member of the York-Ogunquit United Methodist Church, and a member of the Wells-Ogunquit Historical Society. He was an over 50-year member of the Athelstan Lodge of Masons now the Guiding Lights Masonic Lodge in Auburn. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Worcester. He was a former member of the Aleppo Temple Shrine in Wilmington and Aletheia Grotto in Worcester. He loved gardening, woodworking, working with clocks, oil painting and days at his camp in Maine.

Family and friends are invited to a calling hour from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 1st, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114-2699.
