STERLING – Jeffrey B. Drown, 75, of Sterling, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, July 20, 2015 at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus. Born in Holden, Jeff was the son of Clayton T. and Edna (Size) Drown and lived 51 years in Sterling.
Jeff graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1960 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy where he served four years. At the age of 23 Jeff married the love of his life Joann K Hanson of Holden, and later moved to Sterling where they raised their two daughters. In 1965, he began his career at Norton Co. in Worcester, which spanned over 33 years, retiring in 1998.
Jeff had a love of music and was a gifted saxophonist and played in several bands. In his retirement Jeff and his wife Joann started an antique business, jjantiques where they sold clocks and radios he enjoyed restoring. He also enjoyed refurbishing antique furniture, which they often placed at Wayside Antiques in West Boylston.
He was a member of Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons in Rutland and was fond of animals, particularly cats and dogs. First and foremost, Jeff was a devoted family man and was proud of his daughters. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of history, and nature.
He leaves his beloved wife of 52 years, Joann K. (Hanson) Drown; daughters, Kristen B. and her husband, Jeffrey S. Bloise of Manhattan, New York, and Arlene C. Roffee of Worcester; his brother, Douglas Drown of Oklahoma; his niece, Darcy Blythe; nephew, David Drown; and his beloved cats, Mazy and Wesley.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jeff’s family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A funeral service honoring his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 24, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Sterling.
