HOLDEN – Mildred Jean (Giles) Pelletier, 95, of Worcester, formerly of Torrey Lane and Kenwood Road in Holden, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011 in the Knollwood Nursing Center, West Boylston. Her husband of 38 years, Raymond A. Pelletier, died in 1981.
She was born in Granville, New York, daughter of Joseph S. and Mildred E. (Premo) Giles, and lived in Worcester before moving to Holden in 1949. In 1934, she graduated from North High School and later the Fairchild School, now Salter College. She worked as a librarian at the Christian Science Monitor in Boston, the Wakefield Public Library, and at the Gale Free Library in Holden retiring in 1973. She was a member the Chaffin Women's Club and the First Congregational Church of Holden where she also volunteered in its Corner Shop. She was an avid reader and enjoyed painting and arts and crafts.
Mrs. Pelletier is survived by her son, David R. Pelletier and his wife Charlene of Harwich; a daughter, Jean Marie Trotman of South Windsor, Connecticut; and four grandchildren, Christine Sweet, her husband Scott and their daughter, Hannah, all of South Windsor, Wendy Trotman of South Windsor, Christine Durham and her husband Steven of Palmer, and Derek Morgan, his wife Shannan and their daughters Julia, Hannah and Grace all of Harwich.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 22nd, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:30 p.m. in the First Congregational Church of Holden, 1180 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Rutland, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Briarwood Fund, Briarwood Retirement Community, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, MA 01606.
