Jeanette E. (Cournoyer) Morin

SPENCER – Jeanette E. (Cournoyer) Morin, 96, formerly of Mechanic Street, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in the St. Francis Home, Worcester after an illness.

Her husband, George A. Morin, Sr., died in 1994. She leaves two sons, Jean Paul Morin of Falmouth, and George A. Morin, Jr. of Paxton; two daughters, Michelle Berthiaume of Spencer, and Marguerite Roache of Marlboro; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A sister, Pauline Thomson of Worcester, predeceased her. She was born in Spencer, the daughter of Alfred and Emma (Champigny) Cournoyer, and lived here all of her life. She attended St. Mary’s Parochial School, graduated from David Prouty High School, both in Spencer and received her diploma from Becker Business College. She attended summer sessions at Harvard Business College, Boston University, Worcester State College, Montclair State College and Clark University.

After graduating from Becker she worked for the superintendent of Schools in Spencer and eventually took a teaching position in the business department at David Prouty High School. While at David Prouty she also coached girl’s basketball and track. In 1933, she left teaching to raise her family and returned to teaching in 1957 in the business department of North Brookfield High School, where she would later serve as department chair until her retirement in 1970. Mrs. Morin served on the Spencer School Committee from 1941 through 1954 and chaired that committee for many years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, St. Anne’s Sodality and the Golden Age Club all in Spencer, and the Massachusetts Teacher’s Association.

A funeral Mass for Mrs. Morin will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 4, in St. Mary’s Church, 50 Maple St., Spencer. Burial will follow in Mary Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, West Main Street, Spencer. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Spencer Rescue Squad, 6 Bixby Road, Spencer, MA 01562; or a charity of one’s choice. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, is directing arrangements.
