HOLDEN – Jean H. (Simmerer) Koenig, 90, of Holden died peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. Born and raised in Worcester, Jean was the daughter of Eugene and Dorothy (Wood) Simmerer and lived over 66 years in Holden.
Jean graduated from South High School in Worcester and attended Salter Secretarial School in Worcester. She became a medical assistant at the office of Dr. Emil J. Koenig of Holden. She also became a reading specialist for learning disabled students. She taught for many years at Bancroft School and Rutland Elementary School.
Her beloved husband of 58 years, Walter A. Koenig, died in 2009. She leaves her daughter, Rebecca J. Raymond and her husband, James of Wells, VT; three sons, Stephen J. Koenig and his wife, Sandra of Jefferson, Walter D. Koenig and his wife, Cindy of Auburn and Mark R. Koenig and his wife, Robin of Petersham; a brother, David Simmerer of Hubbardston; a sister, Nancy Lang of Shrewsbury; seven grandchildren, Travis, Mitchell, Alex, Derek, Gregg, Emily and Amy; six great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces.
A memorial service honoring Jean’s life will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, October 15, at the First Congregational Church of Holden, 1180 Main St., Holden. Interment will be private at Grove Cemetery in Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jean’s name may be made to the First Congregational Church, 1180 Main St., Holden, MA 01520.
