FITCHBURG – Jean Betty Saul was born July 10, 1920, to proud immigrant parents. Jean graduated from Fitchburg High School where she met her beloved husband, Howard P. Miller. She subsequently graduated from the University of Vermont in 1940. After Howard passed in 1969, she found herself a widowed homemaker raising three children.
Jean decided to update her teaching credentials and became a substitute teacher in the Leominster school system. Jean then spread her wings and expanded her horizons. She became an integral part of Title 1, a government subsidized program still in existence today. This new endeavor allowed her to pursue her career and help many students with learning challenges.
She taught at various Leominster schools including but not limited to Fallbrook Elementary. Jean was also a part of the inception of ALFA at Fitchburg State University.
She was an avid golfer, cross country skier, needle-pointer, painter, but foremost a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Jean always had a beautiful nature coupled with that certain “joie de vie” that drew people of all ages to her. She was a beautiful person inside and out. A caring, loving, thoughtful “special” someone who touched all who were blessed to have known and shared in her miraculous life. Jean will be truly missed.
