Jean Louise (Gibson) Perry

March 2, 1943 — February 25, 2013

RUTLAND - Jean Louise (Gibson) Perry, 69, of Pleasantdale Road, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Monday, February 25, 2013, at the Odd Fellows Home in Worcester. Born in Worcester and raised in Holden, Jean was the daughter of Chester S. and Louise T. (Johnson) Gibson and lived 46 years in Rutland.



Jean graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1961 where she was co-captain of the basketball and field hockey teams, and served as class secretary and president of the Student Council. After graduation, she continued her education attending the Boston School of Dental Nursing and became a dental assistant. Jean later worked as a teacher’s aide in the Rutland school system, and was a secretary at the Rutland State Hospital and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.



She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she was president and was awarded the Girl of the Year award. She was a member of the Rutland Players Club, the Rutland Couples Club, Monday Night Knitting Club and the Rutland Cribbage Group. She was a worthy advisor for the Holden Rainbow Girls. Jean also enjoyed ski vacations, camping, golf and vacations at Myrtle Beach. She attended the First Congregational Church of Rutland. Jean loved spending time with her family and enjoyed holiday gatherings. She will always be remembered for her kind and gentle nature.





Jean leaves her devoted husband of 48 years, Carlton Allen Perry; two sons, Philip A. Perry and his wife Maryellen of Rutland and Jon C. Perry and his wife Kristina of Holden; his daughter, Sally Swartz and her husband Gregor of Pennsylvania; a brother, Russell Gibson and his wife Sandy of Holden; two sisters, Judith Gray and her husband Melvin of Winston-Salem, NC and Nancy Benson of Marshfield; and her six grandchildren, Caitlin, Rachel, Carson and Samuel Perry, Colin and Parker Swartz.



Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A Memorial Service honoring Jean’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, in the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Be Like Brit, P.O. Box 355, Rutland, MA 01543 ( www.belikebrit.org ).
