HOLDEN – John J. Checheta, 52, of Walnut Street, died Saturday, May 12 at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 25 years, Deborah A. (Bartlett) Checheta of Holden; two sons, Andrew J. and Benjamin A. Checheta both of Holden; and his mother, Bernice (Rudzinski) Checheta of Worcester. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late John Checheta.
Mr. Checheta was a graduate of St. John’s High School and of Boston University. He was a Service Coordinator for the Department of Mental Retardation for over 20 years, and also worked part-time for the Providence & Worcester Railroad. John was an avid fisherman and a model railroad enthusiast. He spent many enjoyable hours restoring vintage railroad lanterns to their original beauty, reviving a piece of history in each one, and then reselling them for others to enjoy. John’s good nature and giving ways will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Thursday, May 17th, at 10 in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Worcester, 90 Holden Street, Worcester. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 16, from 5 to 8 PM in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will be private.
