WEST BOYLSTON - Janice I. (Haskins) Bartlett, 79, of West Boylston, died on December 29, 2017 at her home. She leaves five children; Jennie Connolly (Russell Todd), Jonathan (Bonnie), Jodie Ramsey (Charles), Jeffrey (Veronica) and Dr. Jamie Bartlett (Dr. James Armstrong), and was “Muli” to eight grandchildren, Melissa, Kelly, Ronan, Mairead, Kiernan, Eamon, Robert and Caecilia and three great-grandchildren, and an extended family through a second marriage. She also leaves her devoted big brother, Richard Haskins. Her husband of 55 years, The Rev. Dr. H. Milton Bartlett predeceased her in 2012. Born in Framingham, MA, the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth (Kneeland) Haskins, Janice grew up in Worcester, MA. She graduated from Classical High School and Worcester State College where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees and Certificate in Advanced Graduate Studies. Janice enjoyed a 30 year career educating students in the West Boylston School District as a classroom teacher and also having served as an Assistant Principal, Reading Specialist and Elementary Computer Coordinator, retiring in 1998. She was the proud recipient of the West Boylston Teacher of the Year award in 1977. Music was always important to Janice and she was the Organist/Choir Director at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal in Clinton for over 25 years. She also shared a passion for boating with her family and participated in safe boating courses through the USCG Auxiliary, first as a student, then as a member of Flotilla 1006, as an instructor teaching safe boating courses (sailing). She also served Flotilla and Division Officer positions, most proudly Public Education - Youth. She was an associate member of Flotilla 206 in Portsmouth, NH where she did safe boating patrols in Portsmouth Harbor in the 80’s and 90’s. Janice was a member of the First Congregational Church, West Boylston where she served on various boards and committees. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, National Education Association and the American Guild of Organist. For relaxation Janice enjoyed planting flowers in her many gardens around her home. She participated in several home hosting opportunities; twice hosting teacher interns from Japan, as well as participating in Friendship Force International exchanges in England and Ireland. Her understated sense of humor was priceless. While religious holidays were always important, Janice found a lot of joy in celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on her street, being a sneaky leprechaun to her neighbors. There are no calling hours. There will be a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 6 at the First Congregational Church, 26 Central Street, West Boylston, MA 01583. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring her memory may be made to the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, Memorial Fund, 26 Central Street, West Boylston 01583 or Church of the Good Shepherd, Memorial Fund, 209 Union St, Clinton, MA 01510.
