HOLDEN – Betty Jane (Spongberg) Fraser Childs, 85, of 91 Malden Street, died Saturday, August 23, 2008, in Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing and Rehab. Center, Worcester, after an illness.
Her husband, Richard L. Childs, died in 1995. She leaves three sons, David R. and Paul A. Fraser and Roy Fraser III all of Holden; a step-son, Richard Childs of Franklin, Vermont; a step-daughter, Lynda Scott of Naples, Florida; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A brother, Burton Spongberg, and two sisters, Louise May and Ruth Johnson, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Albin V. and Edith V. (Erickson) Spongberg, and lived in Holden most of her life.
Betty was a graduate of South High School and Worcester State College. She owned and operated Chaffin Country Store from 1962 to 1990. She was also co-owner and operator of Betty & Roy Fraser Insurance Agency and was a licensed real estate broker. She was a member of Chaffin Congregational Church, Chaffins Women's Club and a former member of the Holden Housing Authority.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service for Betty at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 6th, in Chaffin Congregational Church, Holden. Burial will be private in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chaffin Congregational Church, Memorial Fund, 155 Shrewsbury Street, Holden. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is directing arrangements.
