STERLING/AMHERST – Jane (Patten) Ricard, 63, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Mass General Hospital after an illness. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Donald O. Sr. and Marguerite (Ruggles) Patten. Jane had grown up in Sterling and had lived in Salem prior to moving to Amherst in 1991.
She leaves her daughter, Megan Rosa and her husband, Paul of Amherst; her son, Gabriel Ricard and his fiancée, Jamie Branco of Beverly; her brother, Donald O. Patten, Jr. and his wife, Jan of Sterling; her sister, Joy Charters and her husband, Terry of Winchendon; four grandchildren, Anthony, Justin and Aaliyah Rosa and Theo Ricard; her former husband, Paul Ricard of Amherst; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Jane earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, earned her Master’s degree in Assistive Technology from Simmons College and was currently working on her Doctorate in Instructional Technology and Distance Education at Nova Southeastern University. In 2012, her illness disabled her and she was no longer able to continue with her studies. She was an Assistive Technology Specialist in the Needham school system. She attended the First Church in Sterling and was a former member of Sant Bani Ashram in Sanbornton, New Hampshire. Jane enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, traveling, going to the beach, trips to Cape Cod and loved to debate political issues of the day. She will be sadly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, at the First Church in Sterling, 6 Meetinghouse Hill Road. A private committal service will be held at Oakhill Cemetery in Sterling.
