WORCESTER – Jane (Nowicki) Rensky, age 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 2, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. Born in Poland, the daughter of the late John and Helena (Kowalski) Nowicki.
A survivor of the holocaust, Jane was taken from her home in Poland at just 15 years old and taken to Germany to work as slave labor, canning food for the German soldiers. She did this for 4 years until the war ended. After the war, there was no home to go home to, so she ended up in Paris, France. It was in the Clichy Commune in Paris in 1945 where she met her husband, John Rensky. He was also a holocaust survivor and member of the Polish underground. John was in Paris working for the French embassy. They married and immigrated to the US on Dec 25, 1951.
Jane worked for most of her career as a seamstress at the Slovin Company.
She is survived by her 2 sons, George Rensky and his wife, Kathleen of Sterling, Richard Rensky and his wife, Janet of Burlington; a daughter, Elizabeth Dana of Worcester; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her loving husband, John Rensky who passed in 1991, and her daughter Barbara Sawicki.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be missed by many.
A private funeral service honoring her life will be held at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by burial at Notre Dame Cemetery in Worcester.
