Biography
HOLDEN - Jane E. Howell, 78, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Holden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a long battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Florence (Lloyd) and Clifford Howell of North Adams. Jane is survived by her very close friends, Lil and Ted Candiloro, who she lovingly referred to, along with their children and grandchildren, as her "second family." If she were writing this obituary, she would also say that she is very blessed to be survived by many, many dear friends in the Holden and North Adams communities.
Jane graduated from Drury High School in 1955 and immediately began working for Sprague Electric Co., where she remained employed at various locations until her retirement 45 years later. While living in North Adams, she was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church, (formerly St. John's Episcopal Church), where she taught church school and was the youngest person to be asked to serve on the Altar Guild.
She eventually moved to Holden where she was very active in the Holden Grange and at St. Francis Episcopal Church serving as Church Treasurer, on the Vestry, Altar Guild, was head of the Bakery at the Church Mouse Fair and part of many mission related activities. Jane also volunteered at the Corner Shop Thrift Store at the Congregational Church.
Jane enjoyed baking, reading, going to hockey games with the Becks and playing cards at the Grange. She was a strong-willed woman with a great sense of humor, who loved the Lord, life and her "second family” and friends. She will be sadly missed.
