PRINCETON – James Russell “Russ” MacGeachey, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Sterling Village Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility in Sterling. Russ was born June 8, 1924 in Springfield to John C. and Evelyn (Hoag) MacGeachey and moved to Worcester when he was 6 years old.He was drafted to the U.S. Army when he was 17 and served 4 years during WWII in China, Burma and India. When he returned from the war, he moved to Princeton and married his wife, Lois Grout.Russ worked for G.F. Wright Steel and Wire in Worcester for over 40 years. Additionally, he served the town of Princeton for over 40 years as a firefighter and worked for the Princeton Highway Department as well. With his family, he also owned and operated the Wachusett Cider Mill in Princeton for 40 years.His beloved wife of 54 years, Lois (Grout) MacGeachey, predeceased him in 2010. He leaves two sons, James R. MacGeachey, Jr. of Cumberland, RI and John R. MacGeachey and his companion, Colleen Hannam of Rutland; his grandson, John Russell Hannam; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Cole and her husband, Durward of Princeton and Beverly Mason of Rutland; two nephews, William and Robert Mason and their families all of Rutland; and a dear friend, Judy Sandberg of Holden. Along with his wife, Russ was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ralph, in 1947.The family would like to thank Carol, Denise, Kayla, Kathy, Brandy, Lori, Jenn, Ashley, Natalie and Cindy for all the help and time they gave to Russ. He enjoyed their company while playing cards and listening to music.There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
