MILTON, VT/LANCASTER, MA -James G. Renton, 77, passed away peacefully just before sunrise the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 27, 2020. He had just recently sold his house in Milton, VT, moving to Lancaster, MA to be closer to his son and granddaughter.
James was born in Glasgow, Scotland to George Renton and Mary (O'Donnell) Renton in 1943. His family immigrated to Queens, NY when he was just 3 years old just after World War II. He started his career in the United States Navy in the late 1960s, stationed in Jacksonville, FL, Puerto Rico, and Italy. He served as a member of an anti-submarine aircrew. The Navy sent him to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn where he graduated early with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1972. He later moved on to work in Control System Engineering at Proctor and Gamble, Ford Motor Company, and IBM.
James leaves behind his wife, Linda (Khan) Renton; his son, James A. Renton; and his granddaughter, Kathryn Renton as well as 3 of his 5 brothers and sisters, Marie Rothenwander, Anne Renton, and Rosaline Reisert.
As one can imagine, James was a very hands-on and avid tinkerer and gear head. He loved to spend time in the garage restoring cars and even built his own luxurious 4 bedroom 4 garage house in Milton, Vermont in 1983. His work ethic, influence, and example inspired his own son to start his own 20-year ongoing career as a Computer and System Engineer after graduating from RPI in 1999. He will be sorely missed beyond measure.
Funeral services for James will be held on Friday, December 4th with a 12 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Grace Parish, 784 Main Street, Colchester, VT. Burial with military honors will follow at New Mount Calvary Cemetery in Burlington, VT. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling.
