HUBBARDSTON – James M. Scannell, 67, of 3 Ed Clark Road, and a summer resident of Dennisport, died at home on Saturday, January 14, 2006, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 22 years, Elaine D. (Kwiatkowski) Narel Scannell; his son, Timothy J. Scannell of Worcester; his daughter, Nancy L. Allen Scannell of Boston; his step-children, Matthew Narel of Wells, Maine, Leonard Narel of Worcester and Deborah Hersh of Northboro; two brothers, John H. Scannell of Rutland and Joseph P. Scannell of Shrewsbury; a sister, Marquerite Martel of Tustin, California; six grandchildren, Jack Scannell, Cameron and Paige Narel, Emily and Kayla Narel and Sam Hersh; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Henry P. and Theresa D. (Danahy) Scannell, and has lived in Hubbardston for the last 19 years. He was a graduate of North High School, Worcester Junior College, and served in the U.S. Army.
Along with his wife, Mr. Scannell owned and operated Club Car in Worcester for 11 years, retiring in August, 2005. Previously he was a route salesman for Pepperidge Farm in Worcester and also worked for Continental Baking Company in West Boylston. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church. He coached in the PeeWee Hockey league for 9 years and enjoyed reading, fishing, and sports especially the Red Sox.
The funeral for Mr. Scannell will be held on Thursday, January 19, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery, Hopkinton Road, Westboro. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, in the funeral home.
