James 'Jim' M. Ryan

July 11, 1942 — October 23, 2014

HOLDEN/MORRISTOWN, NJ - James M. Ryan of Morristown, NJ, formerly of Holden, MA died Thursday, October 23, at Morristown Medical Center. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Michael James and Mary (Sweeney) Ryan.



He is survived by his brother, Rev. Laurence D. Ryan, S.J. of Fairfield, CT; his sister, Maureen Ryan Doyle and her husband, Francis X. Doyle of Jefferson; his nephew, Colin F. Doyle and his wife, Danielle, of Cambridge, MA; his niece, Maryssa K. Doyle of Philadelphia, PA., and several cousins.



Jim was a graduate of St. John’s Prep in Worcester and received his undergraduate degree from Assumption College. He also studied on the graduate level at Emerson College in Boston.



Jim enjoyed a highly successful career in radio broadcasting, beginning at radio station WNEB in Worcester during his years as an Assumption student. He subsequently was employed as a news writer at Boston radio stations WEEI and WBZ. In addition, he worked for many years as a writer for the Associated Press in Boston. In the 1980’s Jim moved to New York City and wrote for the Rev. Norman Vincent Peale’s radio program, The American Character. He was also a writer at radio station WOR in New York. He concluded his career at CBS News in New York where he was a writer for over 20 years.



Calling hours will be held at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden on Wednesday, October 29, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 12 noon on the same day at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson, MA.
