WORCESTER - James J. Miles Jr. - "Pop-Pop" - 80, of Worcester, MA, formerly of Southwest Philadelphia passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, in the comfort of his home. Born on August 18, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late James J. Miles Sr. and Mary M. (Davin) Miles. Jim was the beloved Daddy, Papa, Pop to Dawn Marie Miles Ertel of Paxton, MA, James Michael Miles (Barbara) of Aston, PA, and Daniel Joseph Miles Sr. (Bernadette) of Rio Grande, NJ.
Jim attended St. Barnabas and Most Blessed Sacrament grade schools as well as West Catholic High School for Boys. His early years were spent on the family farm in Albion, NJ and he grew up spending summers in Wildwood, NJ, at his family's "pink house." Jim could always be found on the water either boating or helping at the docks. After high school, he proudly sailed the world as a U.S. Merchant Marine and later went on to start a family in Philadelphia and begin his career as a carpenter with United Booth and Sho-Aids Inc.
Jim's humor and silliness are well known by everyone... if you've met him, he's made you laugh! He had a natural gift of making easy conversations and quick connections with people. Jim's favorites were watching sunsets, tracking the moon phases, feeling the spray of the waves crash at Anglesea, and spending time with his family.
Jim was predeceased by his parents James J. Miles Sr. and Mary M. Miles, as well as his sisters: Mary A. (Miles) Convery (Bim), Margaret J. (Miles) Callinan (Joe), Rita B. (Miles) Wood (Harry) and Ellen A. (Miles) McGrath (Tommy). He was also predeceased by his granddaughter Erika, dear nephews and nieces Chrissy, Bimmy, Suzie, Jessica and many close friends.
James is survived by his children Dawn, Jimmy, Danny, and their mother Gloria DeFazio Miles. He also leaves behind his loving grandchildren: Alexis, Angie (Karla), Freddy, Daniel, Anthony, Sean, Nicholas, Jamie, Ryan, Alanna, Davin, Vincenzo, and Franco. Jim's great-grandchildren are Conner/Conrad, Dominic, Dean, Devyn, and Brinley. Jim was Uncle Shinny/ Uncle Foo/ Foo-Foo to his incredible nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street in Holden, MA. A funeral service honoring Jim's life will commence at 4:00 p.m. An additional calling hour will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Notre Dame De La Mer Parish (St. Ann RC Church), 2901 Atlantic Avenue in Wildwood, NJ 08260 on December 6, 2024.
