RUTLAND – James W. Meagher, 101, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 13th, 2021. He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of James and Lilla Meagher, and had lived most of his life in Rutland.
He leaves his daughter, Kathleen A. Meagher of Rutland; his son, James E. Meagher and his wife, Debbie of South Portland, ME; his grandchildren, Jennifer Loring and her husband, Josh and Brandon Meagher and his fiancée, Chelsea Mitchell; and his great-grandson and great-granddaughter Grady and Addison Loring. He was predeceased by his wife Betty Jean Meagher of 69 years 2020 and son, Thomas K. Meagher in 2019.
James served his country as a Lieutenant in the US. Airforce as a flight engineer after his return he met his wife on a blind date and were married soon after. James and Betty raised their children in Rutland and worked together, starting, and operating their own business, Rutland Sanitation Services, which they have ran for over fifty years. Jim loved the outdoors and his hunting buddies who always made fun of his ability to take naps while the deer walk by.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 19th at Rural Cemetery, 142 Main Street, Rutland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Rutland, P.O. Box 484, or to the Rutland Free Public Library, 280 Main Street, Rutland, MA 01543.
