SHREWSBURY/HOLDEN - James J. Larson, 56, passed away peacefully at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester on Sunday, November 25, 2018 after a long illness.
Jim was born in Worcester on October 23, 1962, a son of Kenneth L. and Maria A. (McGrail) Larson, and lived most of his life in Worcester and Holden before moving to Shrewsbury four years ago. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Worcester.
His career was spent mainly in the restaurant business, working over 40 years at many area restaurants including T.O. Flynn's in Worcester, Tweed's in both Worcester and Northboro, Black Orchid in West Boylston and Dino's in Worcester. He also spent several years working at Nypro in Clinton. Jim was owner and operator of the 1921 Diner in Boylston in the early 2000's and most recently of Billy's Pub in Shrewsbury.
He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. Jim cared deeply for his nephews and nieces and always found the best gifts. His many friends, colleagues and customers will remember his joy in decorating for Halloween and Christmas and his pleasure in cooking up his specialties for a crowd.
Jim leaves his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth Larson, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Jefferson and Christopher Larson and his wife, Kate, of Holden; his stepfather, John Kelleher of Holden; his stepmother, Beverly Larson of Worcester; two step-sisters, Donna Kelleher of Boylston and Tara Husson of Worcester; four step-brothers, Stephen Rosenthal of Hudson, John Kelleher of Charlton, James Kelleher of Auburn and Robert Kelleher of Worcester; three nephews, Joseph, Samuel and Jacob Larson; four nieces, Kaileigh Carroll, Colleen Carroll, Erika Larson and Alexandra Larson. Jim was predeceased by his father, Ken Larson in 2010, his mother, Maria (Sue) Larson Kelleher in 2015, and his beloved sister, Kimberly Larson Carroll in 2004.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jim's family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 29, at St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will be private at a later date.
