HOLDEN – James B. McGovern, 70, formerly of Howland Terrace, died on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in Odd Fellows Home in Worcester after an illness.
He is survived by three daughters, Cheryl J. McGovern of Utah, Kimberly A. Gagnon and her husband Robert of Hollis, NH and Kelly J. Smith of Worcester; a brother, Richard McGovern and his wife Jane of Worcester; two sisters, Patricia Attridge and her husband John of Deep River, CT and Elizabeth Galvin and her husband Richard of Troy, NY; three grandchildren, Chelsea, Ryan and Patrick; and several nieces and nephews. He was born and raised in Worcester, the son of John J. and Florence (Bradshaw) McGovern and had lived in Worcester for many years.
James was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. He worked for Ray Harvey Construction Co. for many years and the ECC Corp. in Holden. He was a longtime member and past commander of the American Legion Tatnuck Post 288 in Worcester and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Alhambra 88 Council.
He was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriot Fan. He loved spending time with his family and friends and will be fondly remembered for his giving, loving and generosity.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 21st, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for James will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 22nd in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
