James F. Adams

May 3, 1945 — February 20, 2024

HOLDEN - James F. Adams, 78, passed away on Tuesday February 20, 2024, after a brief illness. Born in Worcester and raised in Auburn, Jim was the son of the late Melvin G. and Edith M. (McConnell) Adams.

Jim graduated from Auburn High School and received a bachelor's degree in History from Clark University. He married his childhood sweetheart, Joan Leach, in 1966 and moved to Holden in 1969 where they raised their family.

Jim enjoyed a long career working in Life and Health Claims at State Mutual Life Assurance Company and later Paul Revere Life Insurance Company. He was honored to be elected President of both the New England Claims Association and the International Claims Association. Jim cherished the friendships he made throughout his career.

Jim was an avid runner. He enjoyed participating in many races over the years including Charlie's 10 Mile Road Race, the Falmouth Road Race, the Chicago Marathon and, on three occasions, the Boston Marathon.

Jim loved visiting Walt Disney World with his family and dear friends. Appropriately, his favorite character was Goofy. He was a great ride buddy, a patient shopping companion and had the biggest smile in every photo. Jim was always Joan's biggest cheerleader when she participated in RunDisney events.

Jim's greatest joy in life was being Papa to his four adoring grandchildren, Taylor, Matthew, Shannon and Cameron. Papa loved telling stories, going for ice cream and playing mini-golf. Papa also taught us lessons of gratitude, kindness and generosity that we will carry with us forever.

Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan (Leach) Adams; son, Jeffrey Adams of Holden; a daughter, Jennifer Farrell and her husband Timothy of Holden; and four grandchildren, Taylor Adams of Sommerville, Matthew Adams of Holden and Shannon and Cameron Farrell of Holden.

Jim's life will be honored and remembered in a private ceremony at a future date.

Jim was generous with his time and volunteered at Urban Missionaries of Our Lady of Hope and its "Little Store". In honor of Jim's memory, donations may be offered to Urban Missionaries of Our Lady of Hope, 242 Canterbury St., Worcester, MA.
