RUTLAND - Hildred I. (White) Cooney of Rutland died peacefully on Monday November 29, 2010 at Royal Oaks Nursing Home in Dade City, Florida. She leaves two sons, Donald H. Cooney, Jr. of Rutland and Michael C. Cooney of Columbus, Nebraska, and a loving companion and friend Robert Dumas of Rutland; three grandchildren, Douglas and wife Crystal, and Amy, both of Columbus Nebraska, and Michelle, who predeceased her; several nieces and nephews; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Brayden, who she loved dearly. Her husband, Donald H. Cooney, Sr. predeceased her in 1983.
Hildred was born in Moretown, Vermont, and graduated from Montpelier High School and lived in Rutland for 47 years. She worked at Devereux Foundation for many years before retiring in 1992 as Food Service Director. She loved to do gardening, bowling, golfing, visiting the Senior Center, and enjoyed vacationing in Florida. Her most favorable vacation was a trip to Hawaii in 1987 with several family members and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 9th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A private funeral service and burial will be held on Friday, December 10th, at Mountain View Cemetery, in Moretown, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 33 Lyman Street, Suite 304, Westboro, MA 01581; or the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
