WORCESTER - Ishmael Louis Rivera, age 45, died unexpectedly at home on July 15, 2021.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Ishmael was the son of Maritza (Diaz) Rivera and Louis Anthony Rivera. He eventually moved to Massachusetts along with his beloved mother, who was always a loving and caring presence throughout his life.
Ishmael attended St. Catherina of Alexandria School in Brooklyn. He was a lifelong student of the arts, expressing himself both through his own creations and his musical talents on the piano. Ishmael won a scholarship at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, working with their Sculptor in Residence, Greg Wyatt on a piece titled “Animals of Freedom in Bronze”. He appreciated all genres of music. Ishmael cared for his cat Mika and his aquarium and he loved all animals.
Ishmael will be lovingly missed and remembered by his mother, Maritza (Diaz) Rivera; his sister, Ciara Jaywardena and her husband, Meliik; his nephew, Shaliin; his stepfather R. Manchoon; and many cherished friends.
Ishmael’s family would like to express special thanks and appreciation to Jasmin, Nilsa and Elias Rosario.
